Summer Camp Director

Job Description

Responsible for assisting with the training and supervision of Summer Adventure Camp staff, planning and development of recreational activities, and oversight of daily activities with camp participants. Provides a safe, nurturing, and fun environment for both campers and staff. Has direct responsibility of the daily camp participants while they are in camp. Provide quality service and maintain positive public relations. This position will report directly to the Recreation Specialist. Schedule will include up to 40 hours per week. Hours will vary within a 12 hour window, Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Position is seasonal.


Job Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4 years’ experience working with children in a camp or classroom environment, with 2 years’ experience in a supervisory capacity
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Prior experience working at a camp
  • 21 years of age
  • 2 years college/university coursework in related field completed, college graduate preferred
  • CPR and First Aid Certification preferred - must be able to obtain before start date
  • Valid Texas Motor Vehicle Class C Operator’s License with good driving record

 

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Directs and supervises day camp program for children ages 6-12
  • Supervises and manages Assistant Camp Director and all Camp Counselors
  • Plans, coordinates, and supervises programs, field trips, and activities of day camp
  • Work closely with Recreation Specialist to determine work procedures, help prepare work schedules, prepare time sheets, follow-up on accident/incident reports, assist with discipline problems (staff or campers) and any other necessary assistance
  • Manage program budget
  • Serve as a resource person for camp staff
  • Supervise and manage the staffing activities of the day camp summer program
  • Lead the camp counselors in facilitating appropriate behavior among campers and handling inappropriate behavior promptly
  • Provide direct supervision to campers at all times
  • Maintain positive interpersonal relations among everyone involved in the summer camp program; including children, parents, school staff, camp staff, Recreation Specialist, Recreation Superintendent, and Parks and Recreation Director
  • Ensure proper mid-summer and end of summer evaluation of site supervisors and staff.
  • Act as a role model for children ages 6-12, display appropriate behavior, and create a safe, inclusive environment for all campers and staff
  • Monitor the use of recreation equipment and ensure it is used in a capacity that is used in accordance with its intended use. Ensure all equipment is returned to its original location and put back in an organized fashion when done using
  • Follow and enforce staff rules, policies, and procedures outlined in both the Summer Adventure Camp staff handbook and the Town of Trophy Club staff policies and procedures guide
  • Maintain positive public relations with parents and the general public at all times
  • Track program equipment usage and supply inventory.
  • Perform administrative duties such as staff timesheets, maintaining records, incident reports, etc.
  • Perform all other various duties assigned by Recreation Coordinator
  • Must be able to work July 4

 


Physical Requirements

Work Environment:

Outdoor environment; work in inclement weather with regular work hours. Work with children in both indoor and outdoor settings. Possible exposure to inclement weather. Will be required to work in or with water and/or in a pool environment. Continuous sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs; climbing, reaching, kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling; must be able to operate assigned vehicle. Limited computer use required. Adhere to all safety guidelines and wear safety equipment where required. Need manual dexterity and visual acuity. The noise level in work environment can be moderately loud.
