Summer Camp Counselor

Job Responsibilities

100% -

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1 year experience working with children, including volunteer work
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of indoor and outdoor recreational games, activities, etc.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • High School Diploma, some college/university coursework preferred
  • CPR and First Aid Certification preferred - must be able to obtain before start date

 

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Lead youth campers ages 6-12 in various activities in a recreational setting
  • Assist Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director in planning and implementing daily activities such as various games, arts and crafts, outdoor activities, and special events. Also assist with the supervision of swimming and physical fitness activities
  • Facilitate activities with children ages 6-12 in an engaging manner with positive leadership.
  • Foster appropriate behavior among campers and handle inappropriate behavior promptly
  • Provide direct supervision to campers at all times
  • Respond to and take care of circumstances requiring first aid
  • Act as a role model for children ages 6-12, display appropriate behavior, and create a safe, inclusive environment for all campers and staff monitor the use of recreation equipment and ensure it is used in a capacity that is used in accordance with its intended use. Ensure all equipment is returned to its original location and put back in an organized fashion when done using
  • Perform general cleaning duties. Duties include but are not limited to: trash pick-up, mopping, sweeping, and bathroom disinfection
  • Follow all staff rules, policies, and procedures outlined in both the Summer Adventure Camp staff handbook and the Town of Trophy Club staff policies and procedures guide.
  • Enforce camp rules and safety regulations
  • Maintain positive public relations with parents and the general public at all times
  • Participate in camp trips
  • Perform all other various duties assigned by Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director
  • Must be able to work July 4

Physical Requirements

Work Environment:

Outdoor environment; work in inclement weather with regular work hours. Work with children in both indoor and outdoor settings. Possible exposure to inclement weather. Will be required to work in or with water and/or in a pool environment. Continuous sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs; climbing, reaching, kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling; must be able to operate assigned vehicle. Limited computer use required. Adhere to all safety guidelines and wear safety equipment where required. Need manual dexterity and visual acuity. The noise level in work environment can be moderately loud.
